During the 2022 Colorado legislative session, the Hall & Evans Government Affairs team, led by Daniel Furman and joined this year by Erin Snow, assisted the Colorado Society of CPAs with a quick-moving bill that allowed for all Colorado residents to receive a tax refund under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR). Hall & Evans’ efforts are highlighted in the current edition of the Colorado Society of CPAs’ (COCPA) NewsAccount. “Advocacy 101: SB22-233 and the Making of Legislative Sausage,” breaks down the timeline of how SB 233 unfolded with just 17 days left in the legislative session and why advocacy and participation in legislative and regulatory processes are so important.
As legislative counsel, Hall & Evans guided the CPAs on legislator outreach and raised concerns about the fundamental inequity the bill created with the bill sponsors, the Colorado Department of Revenue, and the Governor’s office. The Hall & Evans team also lobbied legislators in both parties and chambers. Mary Medley, CEO of the Colorado Society of CPAs, recaps the team effort that “succeeded in turning inequitable proposed legislation into fair and equitable public policy.”
